Obeying God’s Word

Here’s what struck me last night as we were talking--how easy or hard it becomes to obey God’s word. I mentioned the dial last night. How every action, word, thought, etc. is a step towards God or away from God. And the more you obey God’s word, listen to, and follow the voice, the easier that path--those steps--towards God become OR conversely, the more you ignore His voice the easier it becomes to drift away from God. So I guess this was supposed to resonate with me because I checked out Utmost today and guess what the topic is? Keeping a Clear Conscience. “Consequently, to our human nature in which God’s Son has been formed (see Galatians 4:19), His commands are difficult. But they become divinely easy once we obey.” AHA!

“He does not speak with a voice like thunder— His voice is so gentle that it is easy for us to ignore. And the only thing that keeps our conscience sensitive to Him is the habit of being open to God on the inside.”

Here are a few verses about obeying God’s Word--listening and following His voice.

James 4:17 - Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

1 Samuel 15:22 - But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

Deuteronomy 6:25 - And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness."
